WILL POGBA SIGN FOR FULHAM?
Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba should consider signing for Premier League rivals Fulham, according to ex-Netherlands international Ryan Babel. Babel believes that a move to Fulham would provide Pogba with a better environment to rediscover his best form, free from the intense pressure of playing for a top-six club like Manchester United.
Pogba has been sidelined from competitive football since August 2023 after failing a doping test. This led to a four-year ban, which, after an appeal, was reduced to 18 months.
As a result, Pogba is now eligible to resume training in January and could return to competitive action by March 2024. While there were hopes that Pogba could return to Juventus, the Serie A club terminated his contract by mutual consent, leaving him a free agent. Speculation about a shock return to United has surfaced, with other clubs like Arsenal also reportedly interested.
However, Babel believes that Pogba should consider joining Fulham, who are currently sitting in ninth place in the Premier League, just two points ahead of United. “Yes, I think Paul Pogba could be a good addition for a Premier League club. The only question is which team,” Babel said. He believes Fulham would be an ideal fit for the 31-year-old, where the pressure is not as intense as at United or other top clubs. Babel acknowledged that Pogba could handle the pressure at big clubs, but he emphasized that the environment at Fulham would allow him to focus on his performance without the constant spotlight.
Babel continued, “I think for him it would be good to join a team that doesn't necessarily have the pressure to win the title. Then he could very quickly be one of the main stars and establish himself as a top-level player again.” He believes that Pogba would stand out in a team like Fulham and that the Frenchman still has the talent to excel, despite his long absence from football.
Pogba’s return to top-tier football will undoubtedly present challenges, particularly after such a long break from competitive action. However, with his undeniable talent, a move to a club like Fulham could provide him with the right conditions to rebuild his career and reclaim his place among the Premier League’s best.
