UNITED MOVE ABOVE SPURS AFTER WIN
Three-time European champions Manchester United have moved above North London club Tottenham Hotspur on the Premier League log after their win over Burnley at the Theatre of Dreams on Thursday night. The Red Devils were able to move above the North Londoners to sixth spot in the race for Champions League football at the end of the current season.
Manchester United knew that any form of win over Spurs will see them leapfrog them from seventh to sixth place on the Premier League log and they did just that via a 3-1 win at the expense of a Burnley side who are third from bottom on the league standings. Only the duo of Newcastle United and Norwich City are below the Clarets on the Premier League table.
Scotland international Scott McTominay got Manchester United off to a flyer with an early goal. His strike in the eighth minute set the Red Devils on the road to what eventually turned out to be a straightforward win. He found the back of the net after good work from star player Cristiano Ronaldo. Manchester United doubled their advantage in the 27th minute when Burnley captain Ben Mee put through his own goal after good work from expensive summer signing Jadon Sancho. McTominay then turned provider for the third Manchester United goal from Ronaldo in the 35th minute. The Burnley fans had something to shout about when Aaron Lennon scored their lone goal on 38 minutes but it turned out to be just consolation.
Manchester United were able to move their points tally to 31 points from 18 league games and into sixth place. On their part, Tottenham Hotspur dropped down to seventh place with 30 points from the 17 league games. Spurs have an outstanding game on the Red Devils as things stand.
