UNITED CONSIDERING SHOCK KOBBIE MAINOO SALE THIS SUMMER
Manchester United are reportedly weighing up the possibility of selling Kobbie Mainoo at the end of the season, with contract negotiations yet to reach a resolution. The 19-year-old midfielder is under contract until 2027, but despite ongoing talks over a new deal, no agreement has been found, leaving his future at Old Trafford uncertain.

Mainoo has endured a frustrating campaign, both due to injuries and his struggle to fit into Ruben Amorim’s system. A muscle injury has kept him sidelined, and even when available, he has been deployed in unfamiliar roles, including as a number ten and, in a failed experiment, as a false nine. With Amorim yet to find a clear role for the young midfielder, speculation over his long-term future at the club has intensified.
According to the Manchester Evening News, there is a realistic possibility that Mainoo could leave United this summer. The club is open to the idea of selling him if contract talks do not progress, and financial considerations could play a key role in their decision. Amid concerns over meeting the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations, United are reportedly willing to cash in on Mainoo if a suitable offer arrives. It is believed they have placed a £70 million valuation on the midfielder, a figure that could attract interest from several top European clubs.
Mainoo’s talent is undisputed, and United’s preference is to keep him, but financial pressures may dictate otherwise. Amorim, who took charge in November, spoke in January about his desire to retain the club’s best young players but acknowledged the economic realities facing the club.
"Our idea is always to keep the best players and the players that we build for this club, but we know the position the club is in at the moment,” Amorim said. “We will see. But I'm very happy. I really like the players, especially the guys from the academy."
Despite Amorim’s public backing, Mainoo’s role in the team has been limited. He has completed a full 90 minutes in the Premier League only twice since the Portuguese coach’s arrival, raising further questions about his place in the squad moving forward. Amorim has shown a willingness to experiment with the teenager in a more advanced position, but so far, those attempts have not yielded consistent results. Mainoo’s only goal and assist this season both came in the same Europa League match against FCSB, underlining his struggle for meaningful contributions in front of goal.
If United do decide to sell Mainoo, it would mark a significant departure for a player who has been regarded as one of the club’s brightest young talents. His technical ability, composure on the ball, and versatility have made him one of the most exciting prospects to emerge from the academy in recent years. However, with Amorim’s system still taking shape and financial concerns looming large, United could be forced into making a difficult decision.
With the summer transfer window approaching, Mainoo’s future is likely to be a major talking point among United fans. A sale could help ease the club’s financial situation, but it would also be a gamble, especially if he goes on to fulfil his potential elsewhere. If contract negotiations fail to produce a breakthrough in the coming months, United may have little choice but to cash in while his value remains high.
For now, Mainoo’s immediate focus will be on returning to full fitness and proving his worth to Amorim. Whether that will be enough to secure his long-term future at Old Trafford, however, remains to be seen.
