TELLES CLEARED TO PLAY FOR UNITED
New Manchester United signing Alex Tellesis in line to make his debut in the Premier League this weekend after he was cleared to return to the football pitch.
The fullback has been on international duty with the Brazilian national team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying games with Venezuela and Uruguay.
Alex Telles has played for Manchester United on one occasion since his £12.6m transfer from Portuguese champions Porto at the start of the season. The 27-year-old had one year left on his contract at the Estadio Dragao before leaving the club for Manchester United.
His only appearance came in the Champions League win at PSG. He was part of the five-man defence that propelled the Red Devils to an impressive 2-1 win.
Alex Telles tested positive for Covid-19 almost immediately after that game and he has missed five matches since then. He returned a negative Covid-19 result in timeto be part of the Brazilian squad for the latest set of World Cup qualifiers. He came on as a substitute for fellow left-back Renan Lodi in the final minutes of the first Brazil game this month, a 1-0 win at home to Venezuela with Liverpool star Robert Firmino netting the all-important goal.
Reports in Brazil broke out that Alex Telles has tested positive for Coronavirus again after the Venezuela game but that has since been debunked by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). He was cleared to take his place in the squad for the Uruguay game in the early hours of Wednesday. Telles was an unused substitute during the game.
The news of a negative Covid-19 result would have delighted Manchester United manager Solskjaer who's already without Luke Shaw who has been the first choice left-back this season.Telles is expected to make his Premier League debut during the home game with West Brom on Saturday.
