SOLSKJAER TARGETS FIRST FINAL APPEARANCE
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is targeting his first final appearance since he assumed the role at the Theatre of Dreams over two years ago ahead of the Carabao Cup last four tie with Manchester City.
Solskjaer reached three semi-finals in his debut season as the Manchester United manager in the last campaign and he would be hoping to go one better at the end of the Manchester Derby clash with the Citizens in the Carabao Cup later this week.
Manchester United and Manchester City will meet for a one-off semi-final tie at Old Trafford on Wednesday night to decide who will face the winner of the first semi-final tie between Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford. Spurs and the Championship club will contest the first last four tie in what's a London Derby clash.
The semi-final tie in the Carabao Cup has been moved from the normal two-legged tie to a one-off tie due to the fixture congestion this season caused by Covid-19. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be hoping to lead his Manchester United side past holders Manchester City in the last four to secure a final place for the first time under his watch. He was in charge at the same stage when Manchester City beat Manchester United on away goals rule to book their place in the final. The Citizens went on to win the competition for the third season in a row by beating Aston Villa 2-1 in the final at the Wembley Stadium.
Manchester United reached the FA Cup semi-finals last season before they were beaten by Chelsea who went on to lose to eventual champions Arsenal in the final. Solskjaer and Manchester United were also in the semi-finals in the UEFA Europa League before they were eliminated by eventual champions Sevilla. Solskjaerwould want to break his semi-final jinx when his team play Manchester City later this week.
