RASHFORD TAKES MATTERS INTO HIS OWN HANDS

Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford has taken a proactive approach to improving his form by undergoing a personal training regime after missing out on an England call-up during the international break.

Despite a difficult start to the season, Rashford has opted to stay in Manchester and work on his fitness and technique rather than taking time off.

Rashford, 26, had a stellar 2022/23 season, scoring 30 goals, but has struggled to replicate that form recently. Last season saw a noticeable dip in his performances, managing only eight goals and six assists, which resulted in his omission from the European Championships squad. His struggles continued into the current season, with no goals for United so far, leading to his exclusion from the England squad once again under the new regime.

Adding to the pressure, Rashford faced a challenging atmosphere at Old Trafford when Manchester United were soundly beaten 3-0 by Liverpool. The decision by manager Erik ten Hag to substitute Alejandro Garnacho instead of Rashford led to boos from some sections of the crowd. It was a tough moment for the forward, but instead of taking a break to recharge, Rashford stayed focused on getting back to his best.

Instead of jetting off during the international break, Rashford worked with RH Elite Coaching, conducting personal training sessions at local non-league clubs Ashton United and West Didsbury and Chorlton. These sessions focused heavily on his finishing, including drills on free-kicks and penalties, as he aims to regain his sharpness ahead of United’s match against Southampton.

Rashford’s starting spot is under threat, with Amad pushing for a place in the team after his own strong performances. Antony is another option for ten Hag on the wing, putting more pressure on Rashford to deliver. Despite these challenges, his decision to take control of his fitness and technical work shows a commitment to turning his form around.

Rashford's determination to improve could play a crucial role in his comeback, as he looks to regain his place both in the United line-up and potentially in the England squad. As United prepare to face Southampton, all eyes will be on whether Rashford’s hard work pays off on the pitch.
