Man UTD Goalkeeper May Be Offered a New Contract

According to The Sun, Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is set to sign a new long-term contract with a significant pay cut. This season, the Spain international has performed admirably in goal for United, making numerous world-class saves.

A new contract is being discussed with the club, and the board intends to offer him a renewal with significant bonuses.

The hierarchy is willing to keep the £375,000-a-week star for at least two seasons, but his wages will be significantly reduced. De Gea will likely sign a new contract worth £250,000 per week, but his guaranteed salary will be lower. If he starts half of United's games each season, they are willing to pay the rest in add-ons. They don't want him to become a highly compensated reserve. De Gea had a difficult start to the season against Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion, but he has since been tremendously impressive in goal.

The "magnificent" star has been outstanding in goal for United, except for his error against Everton in the FA Cup third round. Therefore, keeping him for the following season is a no-brainer. De Gea should be fine with the proposed deal if the club intends to sign another prominent goalkeeper. Diego Costa of Porto has been linked to Manchester United regularly over the past few months, but the club does not require a direct De Gea replacement.

Moreover, with important games coming up and just a year remaining on his contract, the club may be looking for a future choice. Additionally, the UTD star has hinted at more time with the club to pen-down a new contract at the earliest. It turns out to be a piece of great news for the loyal supporter as well as a fan of the club.
