LVG BERATES SCHWEINSTEIGER
Louis Van Gaal was critical of the senior man Bastian Schweinsteiger again after the game versus VfL Wolfsburg which United lost to get eliminated from European Cup.
Schweinsteiger was in the starting line up of United for that vital game, but, he could not make the kind of impact Van Gaal was expecting off him and eventually, the Dutchman had to substitute him at the 70th minute mark.
Speaking in the interview given to a television presenter, the manager said, “I substituted Bastian and there’s a reason when I make a substitution. However, I would like to say he is also a normal human just like all of us.”
“I have seen him play soccer of very high quality when I was working with him back at Bayern and I am in no doubt that he would put on some strong displays of his striking abilities going ahead.”
“He’s played the game for many, many years and has been through such phases. So, I believe he would definitely be strong enough to get through it. I don’t think I should be worried about him at all.”
Schweinsteiger was the main culprit for the second goal, that Wolfsburg managed to put on the score sheet to get ahead in the 29th minute of the match. He was outfoxed by Vieirinha and did not go in the direction he was supposed to go. It meant United crashed out, even though their odds on StanJames of qualifying had been as low as 1/7 at one point!?
Vieirinha, the Portuguese winger, was ecstatic about it later on.
In his words, “We had a chat in the change room at the half time break regarding that goal. Bastian definitely made a mistake there and we got benefitted by that.”
Wolfsburg ended as the Group B toppers with 4 wins and 2 loses in the total of 6 games.
