Scholes Waiting on Scan

Sir Alex Ferguson faces an anxious wait for news on a scan on Paul Scholes' knee injury.

He will desperately hope rumours the former England midfielder will require an operation prove unfounded.

The diagnosis following the scan is expected on Wednesday.

Scholes' presence is still key to United's chances of success this season, although no-one would have guessed it during United's 4-2 UEFA Champions League win at Dynamo Kiev.

"We do have strength in depth but the most important thing just now is that the changes we are making are not affecting our performance," said Ferguson.

"Paul got an injury in training, which will require a scan and we also lost Patrice Evra with a calf strain in the warm-up."
