MVOGO REVEALS TEN HAG SNUB

FC Lorient goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo has disclosed that he rejected an approach from Manchester United during Erik ten Hag's tenure, citing his desire to play regularly and compete for titles.

United, under Ten Hag, managed to secure the League Cup and FA Cup, but their struggles to challenge for the Premier League title ultimately led to the Dutchman's dismissal. Among the challenges Ten Hag faced during his stint was rebuilding United’s goalkeeping department.

David de Gea was deemed unsuited to Ten Hag’s playing style, leaving a significant gap that required addressing. While United eventually signed Altay Bayindir to deputize for Andre Onana, the club had initially considered Mvogo as an option.

Reflecting on the opportunity, Mvogo, now 30 and playing in the French second tier, explained why he chose to decline the offer. Speaking to *Blick*, the Swiss international said:

"Manchester United, for example, wanted me. But that wasn’t an option for me. I'm not happy if I can't be on the pitch. I want to enjoy my time on the pitch, together with fans and teammates. I want to play for titles and ideally win them too."

At the time, Mvogo was coming off two years on loan at PSV Eindhoven, where he lifted the Dutch Cup and Dutch Super Cup. Despite the allure of joining one of the world’s most famous clubs, his priority remained consistent game time.

Mvogo’s career has seen him represent clubs like Young Boys and RB Leipzig before his move to Lorient. While his current team sits in the French second tier, trailing Paris FC by just one point, Mvogo remains focused on enjoying his football and chasing silverware.

United’s goalkeeping rebuild has faced mixed results, with the pressure on Onana and Bayindir to establish consistency between the posts. Mvogo’s decision highlights the challenges clubs face in securing quality depth while meeting players’ individual ambitions.
