MAN UTD SET TO COMPLETE TWO MIDFIELD TRANSFERS

Manchester United are on the verge of completing two significant midfield transfers as they finalize deals for Manuel Ugarte and Scott McTominay. Ugarte is expected to travel to the north-west today for a medical after United agreed on a permanent transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.

Initially, a loan deal was anticipated, but the Uruguayan midfielder will now join for £42 million, with an additional £8 million in potential add-ons, marking an £8 million reduction from PSG’s original asking price.

Erik ten Hag has prioritized strengthening his midfield this summer, along with seeking a new striker and defensive reinforcements. Ugarte, who has been a key target for Ten Hag, hinted at his move to United with a cryptic eyes-open emoji post on social media platform X. The 22-year-old will become United’s fifth major signing of the summer, joining Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui.

Meanwhile, Scott McTominay is set to depart Old Trafford, with a move to Serie A club Napoli close to completion. The Scottish midfielder, a product of United’s academy, has agreed on personal terms with the Italian club, and a medical could take place later today. Napoli will pay £25 million for McTominay, a deal driven by the player’s desire for regular first-team football, despite United’s reluctance to let him go. McTominay had also attracted interest from Fulham and Everton, but his preference for a move abroad has seen him opt for the Italian champions.
