Rooney: No More Penalties

WAYNE Rooney admits he doesn't expect to be given penalty duties again after his miss against Aston Villa.

Rooney saw a second half spot kick saved by Stuart Taylor in Manchester United's 4-1 win - when a goal would have seen him complete a hat trick.

But the England international was only handed the opportunity because regular penalty taker Cristiano Ronaldo was on the bench.

And he admits his effort was evidence as to why he isn't usually first choice.

"What happened is why I probably don't take the penalties every week," he said. "I take them in training and normally just smash them in so I don't know what happened there."

Still Rooney made it six goals in his last five games with a double at Villa Park, which was the perfect response after the disappointment of England losing Russia.

"Obviously it has been a disappointing week for England, but Manchester United performed well at Villa and I've been scoring lately and hopefully I can continue that," he said.

"We knew the other results before we played and we knew we had to get the three points. We didn't have the best of starts. Their two forwards harassed our defence and did really well.

"But we got going and Carlos (Tevez) is a great player. I can play as the one going in behind or looking for the ball in behind and Carlos can do the same so we can switch quite easily."
