AMORIM BACKS MASON MOUNT TO SUCCEED
Ruben Amorim has expressed strong belief in Mason Mount's ability to succeed at Manchester United, praising the midfielder’s dedication and effort since joining the club. Mount, who arrived at Old Trafford from Chelsea for £55 million in 2023, has faced challenges during his debut season, including injuries and limited game time.
Despite these setbacks, the 2021 Champions League winner delivered a standout performance in United’s 3-2 victory over Bodo/Glimt, which Amorim called one of his best displays since joining the club.
Amorim emphasized that Mount’s determination to succeed is one of his greatest qualities. "He wants this really badly," said the head coach. "That is the most important thing. He has proven to all of you that he is a talented player. He was a European champion." Amorim added that Mount’s work ethic is evident, and he believes the midfielder has the potential to thrive at United, provided he stays fit and continues to build his confidence. “So we believe a lot in him,” Amorim concluded, reinforcing his faith in the player’s ability.
Mount’s time at Manchester United has been challenging so far, with only seven league starts and one goal to his name. However, Amorim is confident that Mount's talent and mindset will enable him to make a significant impact as he adapts to the team’s needs. The coach believes that Mount, along with other key players in the squad, can continue to improve and become an even more valuable asset to the club.
Amorim faces the task of adapting Erik ten Hag’s team to his own system and style of play, which presents a challenge given the packed fixture schedule. With less time for training, Amorim has made it clear that he prefers to focus on practical, on-field work rather than relying heavily on video analysis. “I was a football player. Videos more than 12 minutes? Forget,” he said with a smile, explaining his preference for engaging his players with more interactive methods. "We have to work on... imagining being in an indoor stadium. Instead of video, we do it like walking and jogging. It’s a way to do it.”
Amorim is also keen to make use of his staff’s expertise, with assistant coach Carlos Fernandes focusing on individual coaching for strikers, as well as personalized guidance for all players. “Everyone has a job in the staff and they are more important maybe than me,” Amorim remarked, underlining the collaborative approach within his coaching team.
Overall, Amorim is confident that the talented players at his disposal, including Mount, have the potential to improve and succeed at Manchester United. His philosophy centers on belief, hard work, and a balanced approach to coaching, and he is hopeful that his methods will help unlock the full potential of the squad.
