Manchester United have agreed a £ 26 million fee with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Henrikh Mkhitaryan according to widespread rumours.

The Armenian midfielder has been subjected to transfer interest from several clubs across Europe. They are keen to take advantage of the fact that the player has only 12 months left on his current contract.Mkhitaryan is also believed to be keen on a more to a bigger club since this may be his last opportunity to do so at 27 years of age. Rather than lose him on a free transfer, it looks like Dortmund have agreed a transfer fee.

Dortmund will not make any substantial profit on the player, who came to the club in 2013 for £ 23 million from Shakhtar Donetsk. However, they will at least recoup the transfer fee paid for him. Even when he was at the Ukrainian club, he was monitored by a number of clubs across Europe but they were mostly sceptical about his ability to succeed at a big club. Dortmund has been a stepping stone for the captain of the Armenian national team. Since joining Dortmund, though, he has been able to win only the Super Cup in 2014. He is expected to join United, who recently appointed José Mourinho as their new manager.

Only a few days ago, Dortmund claimed that they were not willing to sell the 27-year-old at any price. However, realism seems to have set into the German outfit who also learned that the player has already agreed personal terms with United. Last season, he scored 18 goals and created a whopping 25 for his teammates. Yet, this did not produce much success for Dortmund as they continued to lag behind giant Bayern Munich when it came to the German Bundesliga and finished second in the table.
