Ronny: No Striker

  • 12 September 2007

Manchester United wing ace Cristiano Ronaldo admits he's uncomfortable with the striker's role Luiz Felipe Scolari is demanding of him with Portugal.

"I won't say this can't be my future," said Ronaldo, "but it doesn't suit me at the moment. I don't like playing with my back towards goal, I prefer to face it.

"I like to play in attack, as a second forward working off a target man. But for the national team, I will play anywhere."

Ronaldo also insisted he was a team player: "People can have their opinion, but more me it's not true that I play for myself. You only have to look at the number of assists I have."

He added: "I know people expect a great performance from me in every game. People have criticised me for the match against Poland, but I played well, scored once and I'm in good shape to do better next time."
