Carragher Warns Michael owen

Jamie Carragher has warned former Liverpool team-mate Michael Owen to expect a hostile reception from fans when he returns to Anfield.

Manchester United visit Anfield on October 25, in what will be the England forward's first appearance in front of the Kop in a United shirt. The Liverpool fans have always been unhappy with the way their former favourite left them to join Real Madrid back in 2004, a situation now exacerbated by Owen joining their Premier League arch-rivals.

Carragher said that the England man's return was bound to incur a negative response from the Reds faithful, but that Owen was strong enough to deal with it.

"Our fans are usually brilliant with former players but he might get a cool reception," he said, according to The Daily Mirror.

"You can understand the fans' point of view. He used to play for us and now he’s at the big rivals, so of course there will be some reaction.

"That’s football and Michael will know that. He has a very strong character so stick doesn't bother him."
